Some examples of our recent work and tips on how to repair / patch a wall / ceiling hole

How to repair a wall hole:

One of the most common types of wall damage we encounter. We have repaired hundreds of these.

Assessing the damage

When a wall or ceiling is damaged, quite often there is more damage behind the sheet and it needs to be assessed and cut out to replace. In this case the crack extended higher and was damaged behind. Once assessed how far the damage travels, measure up and cut out a new piece of plaster / gyprock. Trace around the hole, ready to cut out on the wall.

Supporting the wall ready to attach new section of gyprock / plaster

Cut the gyprock / plaster out and re frame behind the sheet to support the new piece required. Ensure the wall is well supported behind for the new section to prevent any movement so it won't crack.

Insert and fix off new section of gyprock / plaster

Screw off new section to timber framing leaving a small gap between each side to allow fixing material to squeeze between the sheet.

Setting new section of plaster / gyprock

Time to tape and set the new section. There are numerous  methods and different types of materials used in this step and this is where the skill set lies to achieve a professional result. Fix That Hole always uses high quality materials to achieve the best result.

Painting the finished repair

Once fully cured it's time to paint. It's important to sand off first to a smooth finish and undercoat before the final colour coats. Colour matching is challenging and the best result is always to re paint the entire section of wall to achieve the best result.

How to repair a ceiling hole:

The methods used to repair ceiling damage are overall identical to the above but there are some differences and far more challenging as it's a ceiling. Water damage can cause extensive sagging and much larger repairs required than face value.
